What happens
On the renewal date, Link tries to charge your card. If the payment fails, the workspace becomes Export only straight away: everyone in it can still view and export, but nothing new can be added. The banner at the top says Read-only until a date, with Choose a plan.
Link may email you about the failed payment, with a link to update your card. Either way, you can update it any time at app.link.com.
Link tries the card again over the following days.
As soon as a payment goes through, full access comes back by itself, with the new period and its allowance. Nothing to do in Swops.
If every retry fails, the subscription ends. The 30-day export window counts from the end of your last paid period, so part of it has already passed during the retries. After it, the workspace’s contacts are deleted. See What happens when a plan ends.
What to do
- Update your card at app.link.com, or with the link in Link’s email if you received one. While the workspace is export-only, Manage payment method is not shown in Swops. See Update your payment method.
- Or choose the plan again in Swops and pay with another card. The new subscription starts that day and the old one is stopped, so you are not charged twice.
- Want to keep a copy meanwhile? Export works the whole time. See Export contacts to a CSV file.
The “plan has ended” email
About a day after a failed renewal, Swops may email the owner Your Swops plan has ended, with the days left to export, even while Link is still retrying the card. If you have updated the card and the payment has gone through, you can ignore it: the workspace is active again.
Good to know
- Link’s emails go to the email address used for the payment.
- A Team Pass and top-ups are paid in full up front, so there is no later payment that can fail.
- Allowance that has not expired is kept while the payment is pending. It cannot be used until the workspace is active again. See What uses a scan or an analysis.
- If payments keep failing, check with your bank or try another card.
