“Turn your phone upright”
On phones, Swops works in portrait only. Held sideways, the screen is covered by Turn your phone upright and Swops works in portrait. Turn the phone upright and you are back where you were.

If the notice stays while you hold the phone upright, the phone may think it is still sideways. Turn it sideways and back once, or switch your phone’s rotation lock off and on.
Tablets are free to rotate.
The layout follows the width of the window
Swops picks its layout by the width of the window, not by the kind of device:
| Window | Layout |
|---|---|
| A phone, or a narrow browser window | Phone layout: bottom menu, with Scan in the middle |
| A laptop, or another wide window | Laptop layout: sidebar. Contacts are added by hand; scanning is on the phone |
So an iPad held upright usually gets the phone layout, with Scan, and the laptop layout when you turn it sideways. On a tablet, split screen makes the window narrower, which can switch it to the phone layout. Switching layouts never loses your unsaved changes. See What you can do on the phone and the laptop.
There is no Scan button
You are in the laptop layout. Scanning is a phone feature, so there is no Scan button on a laptop or in any wide window. Use Swops on your phone to scan, or add the contact by hand: Add a contact by hand. On a tablet, turning it upright usually brings Scan back.
The laptop shows the phone layout
Your browser window is too narrow for the laptop layout, or the browser is zoomed in (zooming in makes the page narrower). Make the window wider, or reset the zoom:
- Windows: Ctrl + 0
- Mac: Cmd + 0
The bottom menu disappeared
On the phone, the bottom menu hides while the keyboard is open, so it does not cover what you are typing. Close the keyboard and it comes back.
A link took you to the Overview
Swops has no “page not found” screen. A link to a page that does not exist opens the Overview instead, and a link to a collection that no longer exists opens Collections.
A link to a contact may show This contact was not found. It may have been deleted. with a Connections button. The contact was deleted, or it belongs to a workspace you are not a member of (for example, after you left a team). If the contact is in another of your own workspaces, Swops switches to that workspace by itself.
A banner across the top
A line above every screen tells you about the workspace you are in, for example Free trial · ends 14 Nov 2026, Renewal cancelled. Access continues until … or Read-only until …. Its link opens the plans. It disappears when there is nothing to tell you.
A different workspace or collection on another device
Each phone and browser remembers its own current workspace and collection. Your laptop may open a different workspace from your phone. Switch with the workspace name at the top. See Switch between workspaces.
