Before you start
Export the collection from Swops (Export contacts to a CSV file) and remove the apostrophe in front of international phone numbers, as described in Prepare your Swops export for a CRM. You do not need to split Name: the item name on a monday board holds the full name. Prepare the board first, because the importer’s Create new column only makes plain text columns. Add the columns you want with the right type: a status column Priority with the labels Hot, Warm, Cold and Unrated, a second phone column for Mobile, link columns for Website and LinkedIn, and long text columns for notes. monday CRM’s import from Excel is available on all monday CRM plans.
Import the file
Open your Leads board (or Contacts, if that is where these people belong).
Click the arrow next to the board’s main button, for example New contact, and select Import contacts. On some boards the menu says Import items.
Click Browse and pick your CSV, or drag it into the window.
Under Add items to, choose New group and name it after the collection, such as Automation Expo 2026. Everyone from the event stays together.
For each column of the file, open Select column and pick the board column it belongs in, or Create new column, or Don’t import column. Columns you leave alone follow the Unmapped columns setting above the table.
Under Set duplicate behavior, choose Skip and the Email column to leave out people already on the board. The default, Add as new items, imports every row; Update overwrites matching items with the file’s data.
Click Import Now. A progress bar appears at the bottom right of the board, then a green banner with a CSV summary you can download.
Which column goes where
| Swops column | Leads board column |
|---|---|
| Name | Name (the item name) |
| Company | Company Name |
| Role | Specific role (on the Leads board, Title is a seniority label) |
| Phone | Phone |
| Mobile | The second phone column you added |
| Website, LinkedIn | The link columns you added |
| Address, Country | Text columns |
| Priority | Your Priority status column |
| Notes | Comments, or a long text column |
| Business analysis, In more depth | Long text columns, or Don’t import column |
| Captured | A date column |
| Collection | Don’t import column (the group holds the event) |
The Contacts board’s columns depend on how your account was set up; map to its email, phone, title and company columns in the same way.
Good to know
- Long text is capped. A long text column holds up to 2,000 characters. Swops notes can be longer, and so can the In more depth text, so check the longest ones after importing and keep the CSV for the full version.
- Supported column types. The import fills name, status, link, email, long text, numbers, text, phone, date and people columns. Other column types, such as location, are left empty.
- Dates. Swops writes dates as YYYY-MM-DD, the format monday expects.
- Leads board automations. If your Leads board’s automations are on, imported items get the status New Lead. Turn the automation off for the import if you do not want that.
- Duplicate flags. The Leads board’s Indications column marks duplicated leads by email or company, and leads whose company already has an account.
- Limits. Fewer than 8,000 rows per file, and one file at a time per board.
- Window closes with no message? Download the sample file offered in the import window, paste your data into it as plain text and import that.
- No undo. monday’s guide does not describe undoing an import, so try two or three rows first. You can select and delete the test items afterwards.
